A New Journey Begins

Core Values

Purpose of this Blog:

I envision this blog as a venue to communicate all the wonderful happenings at our school.  I hope to post weekly (each Friday) once school starts, sharing student & teacher success stories, photos and important school updates.  Consider this blog a place to keep in touch with our school on a weekly basis.

Setting the Tone:

I am humbled to be the new principal of Normandin Middle School.  I look forward to meeting the faculty, staff, students, parents and community members in the coming weeks.  It is a priority for me to establish a positive culture at our school and to build trust with all stakeholders.  To create a positive culture and establish trust, it is important that we collectively develop a shared vision of what we want our school to be.  I believe allowing everyone a voice in the direction of our school fosters ownership and pride.  I plan on spending my first months at Normandin listening to what you have to say about our school.  Finding answers to the following questions will shape our values, beliefs and vision.

1. What are the strengths of our school?

2. What are your hopes and dreams for our school?

3. What changes would we need to make to realize these hopes and dreams?

4. How would we know if we were making progress?

5. What expectations do you have of me, as your principal?

6. How would you like to communicate with your principal?

7. What successes have we celebrated in the past?  What one success would you like to celebrate?

Meet the New Principal:

I have invited our faculty and staff to a "meet and greet" on Thursday August 9 from 6-7pm at Normandin Middle School.  I will officially begin work at Normandin August 13, 2012.  Please feel free to stop in and introduce yourself.  I hope to set a date soon for an informal family and community "meet and greet" with me - stay tuned!

As your new principal, I felt it important to share my personal educational vision and values below.  I am honored to serve this wonderful community, and will work diligently to earn your trust and respect.

My Personal Educational Vision
Our Normandin School community is a family. As educators we must treat each child as if they were our own. We must work together, support each other and realize that no one person is bigger than the school/family.

We will all work hard, support one another and grow together. Our school is our family – success is a by-product of our commitment to working together and respecting each other.

Three Point Family Values

1. BE THE BEST PERSON YOU CAN BE:

We must demand from each other that we be the best person we can be with regard to character, honor and integrity. Students, staff & administration must realize that their actions while members of the Normandin Middle School family are a direct reflection on the entire school.

2. BE THE BEST STUDENT YOU CAN BE:

Education is the meal ticket to success! Students must demand from themselves that they do everything in their power to succeed in school, while teachers, parents and guardians must do “whatever it takes” to ensure student success. Students must strive to do their best academically and behaviorally – becoming leaders in our school.

3. BE THE BEST COMMUNITY CITIZEN:

We must commit to giving back to our community through community service learning.  It is important that we understand and respect New Bedford's rich history and as model citizens make positive contributions.
