Poets Published!
Every year 6th grade teacher Ms. Braun enters her students in a  "Creative Communications Poetry Contest".  This past year several of her  students were chosen as winners.  As winners they had the option to get their poem published in the anthology. Many of them did and can be considered "Published Poets"!  Also, because we had so many students who won,  Normandin Middle School has been honored at the beginning of the book as a Poetic Achievement Honor School! Awesome job Ms. Braun and students, we are so proud!

Math Competition:
Normandin’s MathCounts Team competed on Tuesday at Keith Middle school against New Bedford’s other middle schools. The mission of the Math Counts competition is to inspire excellence, confidence and curiosity of our students through fun and challenging math games.  During the competition all students competed individually to find each schools’ top two students.  Our top two was 8th graders Brad Ferris and Megan DaCosta.  Over all Brad placed in 3rd and Megan placed in 4th. Normandin’s Team consisted of Brad, Megan, and 7th grader Michael Maloney, and 6th grader Nicholas Eichmann who completed against the other 2 middle school teams and we placed 2nd.  While the teams competed, the rest of the students worked individually on the target rounds and 6th graders Joseph Peña came in 1st and Morgan Correia came in 3rd respectively.  Lastly, with the activity of Math Dice, Normandin dominated and took all the qualifying places.  Michael Maloney came in 1st, Megan DaCosta came in 2nd, and Brad Ferris came in 3rd.  The rest of the team consisted of 6th graders Jesselynn David, Vanessa Rogers, Sierra Bertoldo, Michael Cao, and Michael Maurice who all worked very hard as well.  Thank you Ms. Lauren Aubertine for all your hard work with our students!

Anaconda Visits Ms. Simon-Correia's Class!

Mrs. Correia and Mrs. Medeiros' classes enjoyed a cross curricular unit on the Amazon River.  The students studied standards from the subject areas of science, social studies and will be demonstrated their knowledge through a written research project.  In this photo, students are holding a 20-foot anaconda skin from Peru, on loan from New Bedford Antiques Center.

Doing Whatever it Takes for our Students!
Ms. Aungst has been working with local Dr. Corin with local community member donations to assist our students in receiving much needed eye glasses.  Our guidance counselors and teachers have been working together to make sure we do whatever it takes to support our students and families- a total TEAM effort, thank you!
